Welcome to another edition of Meet the Mergies, where we interview employees to learn why they joined our team, what they like about working here, what their day-to-day responsibilities look like, and more.

In this edition, we interviewed Amy Chen, a Strategic Finance and Business Operations (StratFin & BizOps) Manager who works out of our New York City office.

1. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I really enjoy being outside, whether that’s going on runs along the west side highway or hanging out in McCarren Park with friends. I also love trying new bakeries and coffee shops around the city!

2. Where were you working prior to Merge?

I was working at a Dutch pension fund called APG, and I sat on their co-investment private equity team. We evaluated and invested in buyout transactions alongside global private equity funds across various industries, such as technology, industrials, consumer, and healthcare.

3. What attracted you to Merge?

Merge had initially piqued my interest because they were looking to expand their StratFin & BizOps team. It’s unique for a seed-stage business (which Merge was at the time) to grow its StratFin & BizOps team—let alone have one! This signaled to me that Merge valued the skillset I brought to the table. Plus, I had the incredible opportunity to learn from Alexia Cohade, our VP of Finance & Operations. 

4. What does your typical day at Merge look like?

As cliche as it sounds, every day looks a little different—and that’s part of why I love working here! My day can include anything from putting together quarterly board materials to supporting the implementation of new processes across the organization. ‍

5. What do you like most about working at Merge?

It feels impossible to narrow it down to a single thing, but if I had to choose, it would be the people. The team is incredibly sharp, driven, humble, and empathetic, which makes collaborating and tackling challenging problems together super rewarding and enjoyable.

6. What keeps you excited about working here?

I’m continually provided with opportunities to leave my comfort zone, and that’s really helped accelerate my career growth. My team is also supporting me every step of the way, which helps me feel confident as I take on new initiatives.

Finally, I love that we’re constantly pushing the boundaries to build a best-in-class product and that I get to do this alongside an incredible team!
