Meet the Mergies: Anna Tomas
Welcome to another edition of Meet the Mergies, a content series that spotlights the wonderful humans who work at Merge.
Today we’re shining the spotlight on Anna Tomas, a People Operations Generalist who works out of our New York City office.

1. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love exploring New York’s coffee shops, bars, and live shows (like Broadway musicals). I'm also a serial hobbyist. I had a moment learning how to embroider, tried my hand at painting, and am now attempting to learn how to salsa dance.
2. Where were you working prior to Merge?
I was at Coinbase and worked as a recruiting coordinator, which involved scheduling interviews across engineering, product, and executive teams. Before that I worked at Uber as a recruiting program manager, which entailed organizing week-long, high-volume hiring events at different offices globally.
3. What attracted you to Merge?
I heard about Merge from a former colleague whose work ethic and passion left a lasting impression on me. After doing some research on the company and talking to other Mergies, I was super impressed with the company and excited about the prospect of supporting and developing the team.
Also, I’ve naturally used various HR tools that don’t offer the integrations I need, which has forced me to routinely hop between applications to complete simple tasks. This led me to immediately realize and appreciate the value Merge provides.
4. What does your typical day at Merge look like?
As a people operations generalist, I work on anything and everything that relates to the people space—outside of recruiting; this allows me to work on something new every day.
That said, on a typical day I can be heads down on recurring tasks, like working with finance to process payroll, assisting with onboarding our new Mergies, or managing performance reviews. I can also be taking on more unique projects, like analyzing data to assess and improve our people strategy and programs, or helping develop and fine tune our job leveling system.
5. What do you like most about working at Merge?
Definitely the people. I always seek to work with people who are smart and passionate about what they’re building, and I’ve definitely found that at Merge. My fellow Mergies are also so humble, kind, and willing to help. I’m never afraid to ask questions when I have them!
6. What keeps you excited about working here?
Getting exposure to the different facets of people operations gives me countless opportunities to learn and grow in my career. Also, Mergies are so fun to be around. They make working at Merge even more enjoyable and exciting.
