Meet the Mergies: Quentin Norris

Welcome to another edition of Meet the Mergies, a content series that spotlights the wonderful humans who work at Merge.

Today’s edition features Quentin Norris, a Software Engineer on our AI team.

You can read on to learn why Quentin joined Merge, what he works on day-to-day, why he likes working here, and more!

1. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I really enjoy outdoor recreation, whether that’s surfing at Ocean Beach in San Francisco or skiing in Tahoe. Also, every couple years, I represent France in international lacrosse tournaments. There’s nothing better than working with a group of talented individuals to accomplish a challenging goal—whether that’s in athletics or at work!

Last but not least, I occasionally have the privilege of looking after my girlfriend’s miniature dachshund, “Big Sausage”, which brings me great joy.

2. Where were you working prior to Merge?

I was at Ernst & Young, where I worked as a consultant on projects in their Strategy & Business Transformation group.

3. What attracted you to Merge?

The product was definitely a big factor, as it’s solving one of the biggest challenges in the tech industry.

But it was after my interviews with the co-founders, Gil Feig and Shensi Ding, that I became truly motivated to work at Merge.

Their passion, candor, and drive to succeed is illuminated in every interaction I have with them, and my interviews were no exception. I knew from the minute I interviewed with both of them that I HAD to work for them and be a part of the incredible team they had built.

Meeting the rest of the team was the icing on the cake. Everyone was—and is—funny, driven, and enthusiastic about helping B2B companies build, manage, and maintain customer-facing integrations.

4. What does your typical day at Merge look like?

At a high level, my team’s goal is to leverage AI in ways that enable Mergies to be more productive and successful. My typical day involves building internal products that support this aim; so there’s lots of coding, spec writing, and iterating on designs with our incredible product design team.

5. What do you like most about working at Merge?

The people at Merge are truly unique. They are some of the hardest working and most intelligent people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing and working alongside.

The work the entire team does on a daily basis is incredibly challenging, but every Mergie has a knack for cracking jokes and smiling while simultaneously putting their heads down and delivering exceptional work.

Since I joined over two years ago, the culture has only gotten stronger, which is a testament to Gil, Shensi, and the rest of the leadership team for hiring such incredible people.

6. What keeps you excited about working here?

Aside from the people, it’s the fact that we’re solving one of the most challenging pain-points in the tech industry successfully. I’ve seen countless clients now build dozens of customer-facing integrations in a matter of weeks. And as a result, they’re able to close more deals, retain more clients, and expand to more markets.

The positive reviews we’re getting from G2 also validates our work and keeps me motivated.

Finally, I’m incredibly excited about applying LLMs in ways that continue to make my teammates more productive; it’s super rewarding work, and the sky's the limit to what we can do to empower our team.
