Meet the Mergies: Paul Walker

Welcome to another edition of Meet the Mergies, a content series that spotlights the wonderful humans who work at Merge.

Today’s edition features Paul Walker, a legendary account executive who's recently moved to Berlin to help us expand across Europe.

You can read on to learn why Paul joined Merge, what he works on day-to-day, why he likes working here, and more!

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love to travel. Before moving to Berlin for my current role, Merge gave me the opportunity to take a sabbatical. I used that time to visit Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, the Philippines, and Indonesia.

I’m also a runner and a big fan of live music—so I love exploring Berlin’s nightlife.

Where were you working prior to Merge?

I was working for a French startup called Aircall, and prior to that, I worked for a Colombian startup called Playvox. Both companies are in the contact center/customer support tech space, and, given their international backgrounds, they introduced me to other cultures. This really opened me up to the idea of working abroad someday.

What attracted you to Merge?

I was working fully remote in my last job. The team and product were amazing, and I enjoyed working with my colleagues, but I wasn’t built to sit alone in a WeWork. I loved that Merge was building in-person.

Merge’s platform was also super exciting to me. I knew firsthand that missing integrations or offering shallow ones were big sales blockers. Based on how Merge was building its product, I knew that they’d help solve the problem effectively.

The team was also extremely driven, which was super important, given how difficult it’d be to build the product successfully.

What does your typical day at Merge look like?

I help both prospects and customers evaluate and successfully expand their integration offerings with our unified API.

This requires a ton of face time over Zoom and even making onsite visits. Throughout these meetings, I try to learn as much as I can about their business models, customers, product roadmaps, and how our integration functionality can help them be successful in their markets. I also make sure that they have the right contract structure in place so that they’re properly supported.

When I’m not meeting with customers, I’m typically working with our solution engineers, product team, and sales leadership to make sure we’re doing the behind the scenes work required to help customers evaluate Merge successfully, have their needs reflected in our roadmap, and offer scalable pricing models.

What do you like most about working at Merge?

Merge is not a rigid workflow product with a handful of rinse and repeat use cases; it’s an incredibly flexible product that can support an endless number of use cases. Every prospect’s or customer’s use case feels like a new puzzle to piece together.

Given how versatile Merge is, no day is the same—which keeps things exciting. Even better, I get to work with a team of hungry, smart individuals that I genuinely enjoy working and hanging out with.
