Juggling dozens of ATS integration requests with limited developer capacity

Juicebox is an AI recruiting platform that helps recruiters find and bring in talent. The platform is built on top of large language models (LLMs), which can analyze professional profiles, websites, published papers, and more to recommend the exact candidates recruiters need—all with the click of a button.

To help their users receive candidate profiles quickly and nurture these candidates effectively, Juicebox needed to start integrating with customers’ ATSs.

David Paffenholz, Juicebox’s CEO and co-founder, adds context on what makes this ask difficult to execute on internally:

“The ATS technology landscape is incredibly fragmented. Our prospects were requesting integrations with dozens of ATS solutions and we just couldn’t meet this demand with our own engineering resources.”

This led them down the path of evaluating 3rd-party integration solutions, and they ended up choosing between two unified API solutions: Merge and Finch.

David explains what went into their decision to partner with Merge:

Solution

Adding 40+ ATS integrations within a week via Merge

Juicebox built to Merge’s ATS Unified API in just a matter of days. 

From there, they were able to add integrations with widely-used ATSs, like Lever and Jobvite, along with more niche solutions that are popular in specific regions. For example, they added integrations with Lano, Teamtailor and Personio, which are all particularly popular in Europe.

Here’s how their ATS integrations work:

1. Once a user logs into Juicebox and opens the “Integrations” tab, they can select “Activate” for the specific ATS they’re interested in connecting to.

2. This triggers Merge Link—a UI component that’s embedded in Juicebox—to appear. Within Merge Link, the user can simply enter their credentials to authenticate and establish the connection.

3. Once the connection gets established successfully, a wide range of candidate data gets added to Juicebox, including candidates’ full names, job titles, employers, addresses, and emails. This data is also re-synced within a matter of minutes and can be synced bidirectionally. 

Taken together, Juicebox can power the following workflows for users:

Kickstarting a candidate search 

Juicebox users can see all of the open roles in the integrated ATS.

How to access job descriptions from open roles

Once they click on a job, the associated job description will be fed to Juicebox’s search engine, which is built on top of large language models (LLMs) and uses the job description as additional context to find the most relevant candidates.

Tracking historical candidate activities from Juicebox 

Once a Juicebox user views a specific candidate’s profile, they can see whether the candidate already exists in the ATS and, if they do, the most recent activities that’ve taken place.

Links to candidate profiles can be accessed via Juicebox

This helps users avoid creating a duplicate candidate profile in their ATS and it empowers them to add candidates to the most relevant campaigns within Juicebox.

Users can also export candidates from Juicebox to a specific open role in their ATS in a matter of clicks. Once exported, any changes related to the candidate’s profile in one system will be reflected in the other automatically.

Increasing average ARR per customer by more than 50%

Given all the valuable use cases their ATS integrations support, Juicebox includes them as part of their highest subscription plan (“Business”).

Juicebox also offers CRM integrations via Merge for recruiting agencies

 Since adding these integrations to their Business plan, Juicebox has been able to increase their close rate for that plan by more than 30%, which has led them to realize a 50%+ increase in average annual recurring revenue (ARR) per customer.

Equally important, their team has been able to save significant engineering costs by not having to build and maintain these integrations themselves. 

According to David:

“We’d need 4 full-time engineers to build and maintain all of the integrations we’ve added through Merge. As a result, we save at least 800k per year by partnering with Merge.”
