Supporting HRIS and ATS integrations within a short timeframe

Peoplelogic, a leader in AI for HR, needed to support customer-facing ATS and HRIS integrations to power their newly-launched AI agents product for talent management—Nova.

Using customers’ ATS and HRIS data, Nova can automatically share the following (and much more) via Slack or email:

  • An employee milestone event, such as a work anniversary or a promotion, allowing the team at large to congratulate an employee
  • Notes and advice for an employee before they interview a particular candidate
  • Hiring pipeline reports to help recruiters measure progress and identify key action items
  • Any new positions that get added, empowering employees to refer candidates

However, they couldn’t afford to allocate their own resources toward building and maintaining all the HRIS and ATS integrations needed to support Nova.

Matt Schmidt, the CEO and co-founder of Peoplelogic, explains why:

“We need our engineers and product managers fully focused on developing and enhancing our agents, and forcing them to build and manage dozens of HRIS and ATS integrations instead would take up all their time.”

After evaluating both unified API and embedded iPaaS solutions, their team found that the latter was a subpar approach for their agents:

“Embedded iPaaS solutions like Paragon force you to build one integration at a time and they couldn’t normalize our customers’ data, which would help our agents provide accurate outputs, consistently. It was clear that this type of platform couldn’t support our AI agents’ integration requirements.”

As their team narrowed down their search to unified API solutions, they landed on Merge because we offered the most HRIS and ATS integrations, provided the most comprehensive Common Models (normalized data models), and were willing to deliver the most proactive and strategic support.

Solution

Adding 100+ HRIS and ATS integrations within weeks via Merge’s Unified API

After building to Merge’s Unified API within a few weeks, they were able to add core and long-tail HRIS and ATS integrations.

Here’s how the integrations can support Nova’s agents:

1. Once a customer adds Nova as an application in their instance of Slack and starts a free trial, an admin user for an HRIS or ATS can use a prompt like, “Do we have our ATS connected?”

If it’s not already connected, Noah, the team growth coordinator agent, will respond with a Magic Link (a webpage that lets users authenticate to their ATS or HRIS).

2. The user will then complete a few simple, guided steps to authenticate successfully.

3. Once connected, the user can make a request that uses their ATS solution's data, such as: “Nova, remind every interviewer at 8am to review prep notes on the day of their interview. Also, link out to the most helpful prep notes.” 

Nova will then decide which people ops agent is best suited to handle it. In this case, it would probably be Noah again.

4. Noah will go on to message each interviewer at 8am (in their time zone) with prep notes on the candidate from the integrated ATS, ensuring every interviewer can prepare effectively.

Note: Nova’s agents can perform seemingly endless tasks with customers’ ATS and HRIS data, so this use case is just the tip of the iceberg (learn more about Nova’s capabilities here).

According to Matt:

The customer data that’s accessible via Merge’s integrations will be just as crucial for supporting those agents,” explains Matt.
